AtlasCopco is a world leader in providing industrial productivity solutions and supplying the technological equipment for the construction industry. Surface drilling equipment, which is just a small part of their wide product portfolio, is communicated and presented by POS and online catalogues. The client was looking for a more efficient sales and presentation tool which could be used by the sales and marketing department when presenting the features of the products, as well as explaining and comparing the differences between them.
We spent a week with the client at a workshop in Orebro, Sweden to learn more about their industry. This helped in knowing the production process and products in detail. After that we were able to finalise the details of the concept for Atlas Copco and agree on the brief, the expectations and the functionality of the application .
Below is the whole wireframe development process from the first sketch of functionality to the very last step that lead to final design. We divided the application into two basic parts representing the two main product segments - civil construction and quarry. For each segment, we created the key visual which corresponded to the main focus of the segment.
For the product portfolio we set the drilling machines against 8 different bacgrounds which corresponded to their usage in their various segments. Each macine was placed and programmed as a 360 interactive virtual tour with the user able to move as they wish. All backgrounds were fully created in CGI - our main focus being to create functional tailor made environments.
We were looking for an ideal background for two key visuals, hence why we were shooting on real locations with Atlas Copco colleagues. Machines and backgrounds were completed and edited in postproduction.
The application is functional for all platforms. The crucial part for the sales team is to configure the machine fully according to their client’s location and needs. We included a graph that shows in real time how adding particular features reflects the price, safety and comfort. The application consists of hundreds parts and the final graph can easily be exported into a PDF, saved and used later with all specification remaining the same.
